Jonathan David’s talent for directing performance-based comedy can be seen in the hundreds of commercials he’s created for leading agencies both in North America and abroad. Since he began his career with the BBC for eight years as a documentary filmmaker, Jonathan has always taken an observational approach to his comedy with an emphasis on casting, performance and the subtleties of human interactions. Jonathan David has been honored at such major national and international competitions as Cannes, AICP, ANDY, Clio, the One Show, the Emmy’s and the D&AD. His awards, two Cannes Lions, four AICP awards, 5 Clios, among others for his work for companies such as Nike, Adidas, Dunkin’ Donuts, Toyota, during his long career directing television commercials. Before commercials he worked on over 200 documentaries for the BBC during his eight years there. He produced and directed Four Lives, an Emmy-nominated documentary. His other documentaries for NBC, PBS, HBO, and for the BBC were on topics ranging from a high-fashion Drag troupe in Paris, to the high rate of NYPD suicides. He also worked as a writer-director for segments at Comedy Central, the John Stewart Show at MTV, and at NBC. He is the author of two books, The Magic Lantern, and Drag Diaries. He remains a passionate advocate for those afflicted with psychiatric and mental disorders. He is also obsessed with the French and their ways.
